Context
Cairns Crocs is one of the biggest dates on the Australian advertising calendar — thousands of marketing executives and agency leaders gather to talk trends and network. The Trade Desk needed a physical presence that felt native to the event's energy, while tying the experience back to the launch of its Premium Internet report.
Challenge
Design a takeover space — OpenHouse at The Chambers — that stood out in a week full of competing brand activations, while making sure the Premium Internet report's themes came through in the physical details rather than getting lost under the noise of the event itself.
Craft
I art directed every piece of collateral across the takeover space — from venue signage down to coffee cups and menus — keeping the Premium Internet report's themes woven through the smallest details.
I also pitched the activation ideas that gave the space its personality, including a branded claw machine and a run of Trade Desk croc charms, which became some of the most fought-over merch of the week.
Working closely with our Creative Director, Senior Copywriter and event agency, I translated the brand and report narrative into a cohesive spatial and collateral system: the CD set overall creative direction and the copywriter developed messaging, while I owned how that direction showed up across every physical touchpoint — signage, print collateral, merch design and the DOOH creative at Cairns Airport. The event agency handled venue build and logistics for the takeover of The Chambers Hotel; my role was designing what filled that space and made it recognisably The Trade Desk.
Outcome
The takeover became one of the most talked-about brand presences at Cairns Crocs that year, giving the team a natural way to open conversations with key clients and agency partners — and putting the Premium Internet report in front of exactly the audience it was written for.
